Have you ever wished you could tune your brain the same way you tune a radio—switching between deep relaxation, sharper focus, or bursts of creativity? That’s exactly what the technology behind Holosync vs Hemisync for Brainwave Entrainment promises to do. Both use rhythmic sound frequencies to guide your brain into powerful mental states, but they approach this in very different ways.

One claims to create a third internal frequency that draws you into deep meditation, while the other synchronizes both sides of your brain for heightened intuition and balance. So, which one really works best—and how do these systems differ? Let’s dive in.

A Brief History of Brainwave Entrainment

Table of Contents

Although Holosync and Hemisync are relatively new technologies, the concept of brainwave entrainment dates back thousands of years. Ancient civilizations used rhythmic drumming, chanting, and dancing to alter their states of consciousness. You can still see this today among tribal communities and Buddhist monks, who use sound to reach meditative or trance-like states.

However, it wasn’t until the 20th century that scientists began to study this phenomenon in detail. Modern research revealed how rhythmic audio patterns—like binaural beats—could influence brainwave frequencies, paving the way for advanced entrainment systems like Hemisync and Holosync. Both now use precisely engineered sound recordings to help the mind enter desired states of focus, relaxation, or expanded awareness.

Holosync vs Hemisync for Brainwave Entrainment

Holosync is a form of brainwave entrainment developed by Bill Harris in the 1980s. It is a technique that uses binaural beats, which are two different frequencies played simultaneously in each ear. This creates a third frequency in the brain that corresponds to brainwave state, of deep relaxation or heightened focus.

Hemisync, on the other hand, was developed by Robert Monroe and the Monroe Institute in the 1970s. This technique uses a similar principle of binaural beats but focuses instead on synchronizing the brainwaves between the left and right hemispheres of the brain into one rather than creating a 3rd frequency.

By creating a balance between the two hemispheres, Hemisync aims to enhance creativity, intuition, and overall mental coherence. It is believed this technique can unlock manifestation and the Law of Attraction (LoA).

How Brainwave Entrainment Works

To understand how brainwave entrainment works, it is important to first understand the concept of brainwave frequencies. The brain produces electrical activity in the form of brainwaves, which can be categorized into different frequency ranges.

The four main types of brainwaves are;

  • Delta (0.5-4 Hz),
  • Theta (4-8 Hz),
  • Alpha (8-12 Hz), and
  • Beta (12-30 Hz).
Brainwave frequency chart showing delta, theta, alpha, beta, and gamma states used in Holosync and Hemisync.

*This can be further expanded to include; Gamma, Hyper-Gamma & Epsilon. I am only just learning about these so thought I would mention.

Each frequency range is associated with different mental states, such as deep sleep (delta), relaxation and meditation (theta), wakefulness and focus (alpha), and active thinking and problem-solving (beta).

Brainwave entrainment works by presenting the brain with rhythmic stimuli that match the desired frequency.

For example, if the goal is to induce a state of deep relaxation, the brainwave entrainment audio will contain binaural beats in the theta frequency range.

When the brain is exposed to these rhythmic stimuli, it naturally tries to synchronize its own electrical activity with the external stimuli. This synchronization process is known as entrainment.

As a result, the brainwaves shift towards the desired frequency, leading to the desired mental state.

The Science Behind Brainwave Entrainment

“EEG brain scan showing neuroplasticity and electrical brainwave activity during entrainment.”

The science lies in the brain’s ability to adapt and respond to external stimuli. This phenomenon, known as neuroplasticity, allows the brain to reorganize and form new neural connections based on its experiences.

By repeatedly exposing the brain to specific frequencies, brainwave entrainment can help train the brain to enter desired mental states more easily and efficiently.

Scientific Evidence

While many users of brainwave-entrainment systems such as Holosync and Hemisync report deep relaxation, improved focus, or enhanced creativity, the scientific evidence remains mixed. On one hand, auditory-beat stimulation (including binaural beats) has been shown to influence neural oscillations: for example, a review found that rhythmic acoustic stimuli can entrain brainwaves and modulate EEG activity. PubMed

On the other hand, the same review observed that of the 14 studies included, only five consistently supported the entrainment-hypothesis while eight produced contradictory results. PubMed

More recent individual studies suggest conditional benefits: one EEG study found that 18 Hz binaural-beat stimulation improved sentence-comprehension performance and increased beta-band power, whereas a 40 Hz condition had no significant effect. OUP Academic

Another investigation into sleepers with insomnia reported increased theta power and reduced beta power after two weeks of theta-frequency binaural-beat usage, yet the authors caution that sound-therapy effects may not derive purely from entrainment. MDPI

Bottom line: there is credible evidence that brainwave entrainment audio can influence brain-states and cognition, but the effects appear highly variable and depend on protocol, individual baseline brain activity, and study design. It’s best viewed as a promising tool rather than a guaranteed miracle.

Benefits of Brainwave Entrainment

Brainwave entrainment has been shown to offer a wide range of benefits for mental health and well-being. Its participants use techniques such as hemi sync and holosync for many things such as Increasing Intelligence and Psychic Development.

Here are some of the key benefits:

1. Improved Mental Clarity and Focus: Brainwave entrainment can help enhance cognitive function by promoting alpha and beta brainwave activity. This can lead to improved concentration, memory, and overall mental clarity.

2. Reduced Stress and Anxiety: By inducing a state of deep relaxation, brainwave entrainment can help reduce stress and anxiety levels. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the body’s relaxation response.

3. Improved Sleep Quality: Brainwave entrainment in the delta and theta frequency ranges can help promote deep sleep and improve sleep quality. It can also help regulate sleep patterns and reduce insomnia.

4. Enhanced Creativity and Intuition: Brainwave entrainment in the alpha and theta frequency ranges can help stimulate the right hemisphere of the brain, which is associated with creativity and intuition.

This can lead to enhanced problem-solving abilities and innovative thinking.

Holosync vs Hemisync: Similarities and Differences Between the Two

While both HoloSync and HemiSync are forms of brainwave entrainment, there are some key similarities and differences between the two techniques.
